Holiday Season in Los Angeles, San Diego and Palm Springs

Tour Highlights

Enjoy the magic of the holidays in Southern California. So much to do and see, spectacular scenery along the coast and in the desert and an excellent climate year-round.
We begin with 2 nights in Los Angeles, where we’ll take in many well know landmarks such as the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills etc. We will also tour the amazing Getty Centre with its world class art collection, stunning views and unique architecture, and enjoy the  famous Christmas Concert at Walt Disney Hall.

Then we travel along the glittering California Riviera for a 6-night stay in San Diego - a beautiful city known for its’ perfect climate year-round, close proximity to Mexico, beautiful bays, miles of white-sand beaches, museums, art galleries and the world-renowned San Diego Zoo. We will stay at the Hacienda Hotel, located in the heart of Old Town - a historic section of the city with restored buildings, old adobe structures, restaurants, cafes and shops - a great place in which to stroll. While in San Diego we’ll visit the famous Zoo, enjoy the Festival of Lights show at the Mission Inn, a special Holiday Theatre show and   festive Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Dinners.

Then it’s off to Palm Springs for 7 nights at the lovely and informal Palm Mountain Resort, in the heart of downtown Palm Springs. This city in the desert, popular for its’  healing mineral waters, became a retreat for many Hollywood stars. Surrounded by splendid mountains, canyons and palm trees, Palm Spring’s unique location allows it to remain warm and balmy year-round.  We’ll enjoy a “Rich and Famous” tour of the city with a nature hike into Indian Canyon, a visit to Joshua Tree National Park - a veritable treasury of wildlife and natural beauty, and a Festive New Years celebration dinner with music.

There will be many holiday festivities included in our tour in order to enjoy the enchantment of the season!

Tentative Itinerary

We depart for Los Angeles, where we are met and transferred to our hotel in downtown LA.
Our full-day tour includes a tour of the Getty Center - home to one of the world’s largest art collections, unique architecture and gardens which offer a breathtaking view of the mountains and ocean! We continue to downtown LA and Olivera Street (oldest section of LA), Beverly Hills, Sunset Boulevard, the Farmers’ Market and a walk along the Hollywood Walk of Fame! This evening we enjoy a wonderful holiday performance at the Walt Disney Hall!
We travel along the picturesque California Riviera, and first enjoy a casual harbour cruise at Newport Beach. Then we’ll stop in the artistic resort town of Laguna, followed by a visit of the historic San Juan Capistrano Mission - legendary for the cliff swallows that migrate from Argentina to San Juan Capistrano in large groups each year. Later we arrive in San Diego for a 6-night stay.
San Diego is the birthplace of California, and our full-day tour takes us through the city’s old and new - Point Loma, Cabrillo National Monument, Mission Bay and finally a walking tour of Old Town where the first Europeans settled, which today is rich with historical architecture, museums, artisans, galleries and more.
A day at leisure in a city with so much to see and do! Our hotel’s location is in lively Old Town, laden with shops, museums and restaurants. A hop on the trolley will take you to the Gas Lamp District and to Seaport Village on the waterfront - a charming area with a boardwalk, horse-drawn carriages and an 1890 carousel. Ask your Tour Manager for suggestions!
We enjoy the heavenly voices of the “Christmas Belles” who will perform especially for our group. Then we proceed to Riverside’s historic Mission Inn, transformed into a breathtaking holiday village by 3.6 million brilliant lights. The Festival of Lights here has other seasonal touches as well, including romantic carriage rides through the freshly fallen “snow”. This is a spectacular location for our bountiful Christmas Eve dinner.
We visit the San Diego Zoo and see the “Jungle Bells”, which includes animal light sculptures, performances by elves on trampolines, jazzy carol singers and festive foods. Later we enjoy the festive lights of Balboa Park where our special Christmas Dinner awaits us at The Prado.
We enjoy a matinee production at the local theatre.
We leave San Diego and first stop in the quaint historic town of Temecula, known as “Southern California’s Citrus and Wine Country” because there are 35 award-winning wineries in the area. After a tour of the town we enjoy a Tour and Tasting with lunch included and then continue to Palm Springs for a 7-night stay.
Since the 1930’s, Palm Springs has been the playground of the rich and famous. On today’s “Rich and Famous” Tour we’ll visit famous neighbourhoods of star-studded homes such as Las Palmas with its vast collection of fascinating architecture. We’ll hear stories and secrets of the stars that frequented here like Bing Crosby, Hedy Lamarr, Elvis Presley, the Rat Pack, Marilyn Monroe, Liz Taylor, Zsa Zsa Gabor and more! Then we’ll enjoy a gentle hike into the beautiful Indian Canyon, and as the Coachella Valley is known as the Date Capital, we’ll visit a date garden.
A day at leisure. Why not visit the Sunnylands Center and Gardens - a retreat for many political leaders and celebrities, or ride the tram at the Living Desert and Museum through its unique wildlife and botanical park. Ask your Tour Manager for suggestions!
A full-day visit to the stunning Joshua Tree National Park, noted for its exquisite natural beauty. The wildflowers, palm groves, colourful canyons, surreal geological features and breathtaking vistas make this one of the world’s richest living museums. Lunch is included.
This evening we enjoy a special New Years Eve Dinner with party favours, champagne and celebrations!
A leisurely day with an included lunch at a local restaurant.
We take a ride on the world’s largest rotating tram car, and travel over two miles along the breathtaking cliffs of Chino Canyon up to the pristine wilderness of San Jacinto State Park. Afternoon at leisure. Our Farewell Dinner is this evening.
We fly home direct from Palm Springs.
