Grand Tour of Arizona

plus Las Vegas

Tour Highlights

• Tucson  • Phoenix
• Grand Canyon  • Las Vegas
Spectacular scenery, arid desert lands, a clear sunny climate with very low humidity, the fascinating Spanish and  Indian cultures, the romantic allure of the Old West and an easy-going lifestyle are just a few of the reasons why Arizona has become such a popular resort area.

On this tour we begin with four days in Tucson - the “City of Sunshine”, whose cultural mix of Wild Western,  Spanish, Mexican and Indian cultures is colourful and fascinating. Tucson lies in a valley flanked by high hills and is known for its flourishing beauty of the surrounding Sonoran Desert.

Our next five-night stop is in Phoenix. Located in the  “Valley of The Sun” just a short distance from Scottsdale, the city is rich in arts and culture, with a wide array of sumptuous restaurants and culinary delights. With more than 300 days of sunshine every year, the beautiful climate here makes it the perfect place to enjoy the outdoors.   In addition, the desert, lush with Saguaro and Prickly Pear cactus, and the nearby Superstition Mountains offer an incredible diversity of wildlife.

After our stay in Phoenix, we explore Northern Arizona.    Highlights include visits to the stunning “Red Rock” monoliths of Sedona, the extraordinary “Spiral Rock Arches” of Antelope Canyon and, last but not least, the majestic Grand Canyon.

After experiencing nature's breathtaking beauty we travel to the desert playground of Las Vegas - a lively way to end our tour!

Tentative Itinerary

We depart for Phoenix. Upon arrival we transfer to our hotel in Tucson (about a 2 hour drive). This evening is our Welcome Dinner.
We have a full day of sightseeing in and around Tucson. We see the city sights first and then on to Sabino Canyon, a desert oasis in the foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains. The highlight here will be a tram tour through the stunning canyon.
We first visit the old western copper mining town of Bisbee, which has many of its original 19th century buildings, and an enormous open pit copper mine to view. Then we proceed to Tombstone, where the exhibits include the OK Corral as it appeared in the 1880s, when Wyatt Earp had his famous gunfight. An entertaining guide in period costume will bring the town to life with fascinating stories of the Old West!
We travel through beautiful Saguaro National Park to the Sonora Desert Museum, a unique zoo for the animals and birds that live in the desert, and also a botanical garden displaying the various cacti and other flora which inhabit the desert. Afternoon at leisure.
We transfer to Phoenix. Before we check-in at our hotel we will visit the Musical Instrument Museum. With state-of-the-art technology this unique museum allows one to hear and feel the sounds of more than 10,000 instruments from all over the world.
This area is known as the Valley of the Sun because it receives more than 4,000 hours of sunshine annually. Our city tour includes the beautiful campus of Arizona State University, the Capital Building and Camelback Mountain. We also enjoy a walking tour of Old Town Scottsdale - a great place to revisit on a free day.

This evening we enjoy a dinner and show at the Arizona Opry Theatre.
Morning at leisure. This afternoon we will enjoy some spectacular scenery as we take a boat ride on Canyon Lake, known for its interesting rock formations that resemble people and animals. Listen to the tales and legends of the area told by the captain.
Two days of leisure in which to soak up some sun, swim, shop or just explore more of the Valley of the Sun. Your Tour Manager will offer suggestions. A wonderful western BBQ, with live country and western music is included one of these evenings.
A very scenic day as we first visit Oak Creek Canyon, enjoying views of the marvellous strands of red rocks, and beautiful streams and valleys. Then we stop in Sedona - a lovely artist colony town known for its magnificent red rock formations. We will enjoy a trolley tour of the most fantastic sights, and learn about the Western movies made here as well as Native American history. After our tour we proceed to Flagstaff.
Today we visit the fantastic Grand Canyon, one of the Great Natural Wonders of the World. The canyon is 15 miles wide, a mile deep and formed over millions of years by the erosion of the Colorado River. The most wondrous aspect of the canyon is that the walls change hue with every change of light from sunrise to sunset. There are plenty of scenic lookouts, so bring those cameras. We return to Flagstaff for our overnight.
On this marvellous day of sightseeing we pass two Indian reservations and the vibrant Painted Desert. We enter the spectacular Antelope Canyon and enjoy a Navajo guided jeep tour through the Canyon’s petrified sand dunes - a natural marvel created by wind, water and sand! We overnight in Page.
We travel to Las Vegas and check into our First Class hotel right on The Strip. The rest of the day is at leisure.
This morning we enjoy a tour of Glitter Gulch - the older downtown section, and also The Strip with all its theme hotels. Look out for volcanoes, pyramids, the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty. Afternoon at leisure. This evening is our Farewell Dinner.
We fly home from Las Vegas.
