Panama Canal Cruise (Partial Transit)

aboard the Caribbean Princess

Tour Highlights

As early as Columbus, man was intent on finding a sea-level shortcut between the
Atlantic and the Pacific Oceans.
By creating artificial lakes and immense lift-locks the Americans performed, in 1914, one of history’s greatest engineering feats. To experience the Canal is memorable. The scenery at the 8th Wonder of the World is enchanting, not to mention the intricate workings of the locks.

We will sail round-trip from Fort Lauderdale via the “Path Between the Seas”, for a partial transit aboard the Caribbean Princess. Princess Cruises, whose ships are among the most beautiful and hospitable, was one of the first cruise lines to traverse the canal. Their ships are luxurious, floating resorts with all of the comforts and pleasures of a deluxe resort hotel. Facilities include swimming pools, a spa with sauna and massage and aerobics and dance classes. Enjoy the commentary on each port on your in-cabin entertainment system, or relax in one of the luxurious lounges with expansive windows and watch some of the world's most dramatic scenery glide by.

The chefs on Princess Cruises are renowned for their wide array of international cuisine, and the service is unsurpassed. As for entertainment, there are elegant cocktail lounges, first run films, a casino and Broadway style entertainment.

The staterooms have TV with in-house movies, climate control, fridge, phone, safe, spacious closets and a private bathroom. Mini-suites have a comfortable sitting area and a large private balcony.

* All shore excursions are optional, and may be purchased in advance on Princess Cruises’ website, or onboard the ship.

Tentative Itinerary

We depart for Fort Lauderdale, and upon arrival we transfer to our cruise ship. This evening we will enjoy our first delicious dinner on board.
Time to relax and get acquainted with the ship and enjoy the endless array of facilities, activities and entertainment. Visit the health club for a workout or beauty treatment, join an exercise class, line dancing or perhaps wine tasting.
With beautiful green hills providing a picturesque backdrop, Ocho Rios on Jamaica’s north coast is noted for being one of the Caribbean’s most popular resort towns. You may want to visit the world famous Dunn’s River Falls with its spectacular limestone tiers. Or enjoy an unforgettable opportunity to interact with Bottlenose Dolphins at Dolphin Cove. Other attractions here include the verdant Fern Gully, Turtle Beach and the lovely grounds of Shaw Park Gardens.
In the 17th century this walled city was a target for every pirate on the high seas. It has many architectural treasures along its narrow streets with Spanish inspired facades and balconies. A ride to the top of La Popa Hill will give you great views of the city and harbour, the old fort and a 17th century monastery. Gold, silver and precious stones are available at bargain prices.
Today we experience the transit of the Panama Canal. Be on deck to watch the "mules" pull our ship through. See the immense lift locks raise and lower the passing vessels and great volumes of water rushing by. Enjoy the scenery on either side of the canal with mangrove swamps and tropical plants, trees and bird life. As we cruise through there is a detailed narration of this colossal undertaking that cost $367 million in 1914. We will cruise as far as Gatun Lake, the largest man-made lake in the world, before returning to the Caribbean Sea.
The mountainous beauty of this country will surprise you. You may want to take the excursion through the jungles and coffee plantations to cosmopolitan San Jose.
Following all of the exciting sightseeing of the past few days, a day to relax comes most welcome.
We arrive at Grand Cayman, famous for its Seven Mile Beach and some of the finest duty-free shopping in the Caribbean. In Georgetown the 5-story building limit contributes to the charming ambiance of this island.
A final day to relax or participate in the activities on board ship.
We disembark the ship at Fort Lauderdale and transfer to the airport for our flight home.
