Itinerary / Excursions

We depart for Vienna with Air Canada.
We arrive in Vienna and transfer to the MS Vivienne. After a welcome cocktail we enjoy our Welcome Dinner.
On our city tour we will see the highlights of this “Imperial “ capital, including Hunderwasser, the Ringstrasse, the Parliament, the State Opera, Hofburg (Imperial Palace) and Belvedere Palace. Our last stop will be in the old center of Vienna to take a walk through the pedestrian zone from Graben and Kohlmarkt to Michaela Square, ending at the entrance of St. Stephan’s Cathedral. The rest of the day is at leisure.
We will enjoy a tour of this lovely city, including the famous St. Martin's Cathedral and the Primate's Palace. Our tour will end with a walk through the Old Town where we will see Michael's Gate and Tower, Main Square, Old Town Hall and the Slovak National Theatre.
Our tour of this lovely city will take in The Parliament Building, St. Stefan Cathedral, the Opera, the Square of Heroes, Fisherman’s Bastion, Gellert Hill and the town park with Vajdahunyad Castle.
A day at leisure to enjoy pedestrian friendly Budapest on your own, or partake in an optional excursion. Before dinner we will enjoy a concert performed by a local Gypsy duo.
View the passing vistas from the Sun Deck as we sail into the Drava River toward Osijek - Croatia’s 4th largest city. This afternoon we will tour the Old Town including the Tvrdja (Citadel) - Croatia’s best-preserved and largest ensemble of baroque buildings. Later we will enjoy live entertainment featuring Croatian folk music and “tamburica” - the Croatian version of a banjo.
Novi Sad, Serbia’s third largest city, is a delightful pedestrian friendly town. We will join a local guide for a walking tour through the town center, followed by a tour of the imposing Petrovaradin Fortress (known as the “Gibraltar on the Danube”). Built in the 18th century over 116 hectares, the fortress has 4 levels and more than 16 km of underground tunnels.
Our city tour of this lively capital will include the looming Kalemegdan Fortress, St. Sava’s Orthodox Cathedral (perched on a hill it can be seen from every part of the city), Princess Ljubica's Manor, Mark's Church and more. The tour will end with a stroll through Knez Mihajlova Street - the main pedestrian zone full of boutiques, open air cafés and galleries. This evening we enjoy a private folklore show on board.
Today’s highlight will be the passage through the "The Iron Gates" - the highest gorge on the Danube. Over 100 km. long, this canyon was historically a gigantic obstacle to navigate because of its pointed rocks, cliffs and changing water levels. A dam built in the 1970’s enables safe passage for passenger and cargo ships all the way to the Black Sea. Tonight is the Captain’s Farewell Dinner.
We embark on a tour of this delightful Bulgarian river port, highlighted by a visit to the 13th century fortress named “Baba Vida” (“Grandma Vida”) - Bulgaria’s best preserved medieval fortress. There will be free time in the afternoon.
We disembark our ship and transfer to the “Paris of the East” – Bucharest, Romania’s lovely capital. Highlights of our city tour will include Revolution Square, Arch de Triumph, the National Theatre, the Romanian Athenaeum and more. We will stop for photos at President Ceausescu’s huge "People's House" (today’s Parliament) - the second largest building in the world after the Pentagon.
We transfer to the airport for our flight back to Canada (via Frankfurt).
