West Coast Rail and Sea

Tour Highlights

  • Rocky Mountaineer Rail Tour
  • 3 Night Princess Cruise
  • Stays in Banff, Vancouver and Los Angeles
On this tour we experience the Rocky Mountains, the beauty of British Columbia, two of North America’s favourite cities and a relaxing time at sea - quite a wide range of experiences! We begin in Banff - heart of the Canadian Rockies, for a 3-night stay. Touring highlights here include Lake Louise, the amazing Columbia Icefields and the Banff Gondola ride to the top of Sulphur Mountain for the view of a lifetime.

Then we board the Rocky Mountaineer for a 2-day journey. This is one of the world's most spectacular rail journeys. The train follows the path of the early explorers as it meanders over trestle bridges, follows rivers, passes waterfalls and everywhere, of course, the glacier-clad mountains. Your train attendant will entertain you with interesting commentary and ensure your comfort. There are two types of service aboard the Rocky Mountaineer. Silver Leaf Service includes hot breakfast and luncheon selections served at your seat. You will enjoy the spectacular scenery through the oversized panoramic windows. Gold Leaf Service includes gourmet hot breakfasts and lunches served in the exclusive Gold Leaf Dining Room, and unparalleled panoramic views through the full-length dome windows. Note - Gold Leaf passengers will be separated from the main group during the journey.

The train trip ends in Vancouver (undeniably Canada's most beautiful city), for a 2-night stay. We will enjoy a city tour and a free afternoon to explore Vancouver on our own.

Then we board our ship for a 3-night cruise down the west coast. Our ship, the Royal Princess, is a luxurious floating resort with the Princess Line’s standard of facilities, entertainment, cabin amenities and meal service. A choice of cabin categories is offered.

Our cruise ends in Los Angeles, where we enjoy a city tour, our Farewell Dinner and an overnight. The city of Hollywood glamour is always a fun place to visit.

Tentative Itinerary

We depart for Calgary and on arrival transfer by coach to Banff. Tonight is our Welcome Dinner.
Our first stop this morning is Lake Louise, world famous for its crystal blue water and beautiful mountain setting. We then proceed up the Icefields Parkway until we reach the spectacular Columbia Icefields. The Icefields are one of the largest ice accumulations south of the Arctic Circle and the most accessible in North America. Here we will ride a “Snocoach” to the middle of Athabasca Glacier to learn more about its geological features. We return to Banff for our dinner and overnight.
Our morning tour will include Bow Lake, Tunnel Mountain Drive and a spectacular Gondola ride to the top of Sulphur Mountain for the view of a lifetime. Afternoon at leisure to stroll the quaint streets and shops in the lovely mountain resort town of Banff.
We board the Rocky Mountaineer and head for Kamloops, gateway to BC's interior. As the train crosses the Continental Divide we pass through the Spiral Tunnels in Yoho National Park, an amazing engineering achievement. You will be thrilled by the stunning glaciers, numerous tunnels and snow-capped mountains of Rogers Pass. Another highlight is historic Craigellachie where the "last spike" was driven to complete the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1885. As the train approaches Kamloops it follows the shoreline of Shuswap Lake. Breakfast and lunch are aboard the train. We overnight at a Kamloops hotel, dinner included.
We continue by train westward alongside the Thompson River to the beautiful and winding Fraser Canyon. A highlight is Hell's Gate where water passes in a torrent over the canyon walls. As we leave the region the train passes through the fertile Fraser Valley to Vancouver. Breakfast and lunch are on the train.
Our city sightseeing tour this morning will show us Chinatown, Gastown, Robson Street, Stanley Park and much more. Afternoon at leisure to explore this beautiful city on your own.
Morning at leisure to enjoy the city. In the afternoon we board our deluxe cruise ship, the Royal Princess. This evening is our first delicious dinner onboard.
Enjoy the endless array of facilities, activities and entertainment onboard.
The ship arrives in Los Angeles where we disembark for a tour of the city. We begin at Santa Monica for a stroll along the famous Santa Monica Pier. Built in 1912, it is the oldest pleasure pier on the West Coast, and the set for many scenes from Hollywood movies. After a visit to the Farmers Market we drive through parts of Hollywood and stop to see the Walk of Fame outside the TCL Chinese Theatre. After our tour we will proceed to our hotel in the heart of the city for our Farewell Dinner and overnight.
Air Canada takes us home from LA.
