The area is quite flat (easy for strolling) and runs along a beautiful stretch of shoreline with long, white, sandy beaches and caves all blessed by the Mediterranean sun and sparkling blue sea. This holiday is based in the resort town of Benidorm in the heart of the Costa Blanca near two great beaches (Levante and Poniente), and fronted by a palm-fringed promenade. This esplanade is an ideal place on which to stroll and perhaps visit the shops and outdoor cafes and bars.
Our hotel in Benidorm is the moderate Poseidon Resort which consists of the Poseidon Hotel and the Poseidon Palace. These two properties are joined by an extensive garden area and swimming pool, ideally situated near shopping, restaurants and Costa Blanca’s wonderful inviting beach - the Playa de Levante. Guests may use the facilities of both hotels (except the restaurant) which include a heated indoor pool, an outdoor pool with sun loungers and parasols, a gym and Jacuzzi. There are several bars and lounges, sports activities, games and daily entertainment with shows and live music performances. Guest rooms are simply furnished with twin beds, private bathroom, satellite TV, central heating or air conditioning, safety deposit box (optional for a small fee), mini-bar, hair dryer and balcony. WiFi is available throughout the hotel.
All meals are buffet style offering an ample selection and a wide variety of cuisines featuring local specialties. There are live cooking demonstrations and table service for beverages. All-inclusive beverages are available throughout the resort any time you please, and include local wines, beers, spirits and soft drinks.
We will fly via Amsterdam or Paris. In order to make our flight schedule more convenient we will spend our final night in Valencia (Costa Blanca’s international gateway).
* Those joining any of our tours to Europe must be able to walk fairly long distances and climb stairs easily.
Excursions
Villajoyosa
We visit the coastal village of Villajoyosa where we will enjoy a walking tour of the charming old quarter and see the colourful fisherman’s houses along the beach. We will then visit the factory and museum of Chocolates Valor, with a sample of course, before returning to Benidorm.
Guadalest
We visit the old town here, which is a fine example of one of southern Spain’s Arab villages, and we’ll visit the Belem Museum of Miniatures.
Novelda and Bodega Winery
An excursion to the city of Novelda, famous for its magnificent vineyards and beautiful marble. We visit the 8th century Arabic-Christian Castle followed by a tour of a wine cellar and a chance to taste the local Alicante wine.
Elche
We see a palm forest that was planted centuries ago by the Moors. Elche is known today as Spain's palm capital and the palm fronds from here are dried and used in Easter celebrations. We see the surrounding gardens and ruins of the castle in the old quarter of town. Elche is also Spain’s shoe producing capital and so we’ll visit a shoe factory, where we’ll enjoy a local liqueur and see a demonstration.
Alicante
This town has a delightful palm fringed promenade paved in marble. We see the Santa Barbara Castle, the cathedral and the town hall with its beautiful statue of Saint John made by Salvador Dali. There will be some free time for those who wish to visit the Modern Art Museum.
North Coast
We tour the Costa Blanca's north coast to see some of the small villages and towns with a visit to the famous Virgin de Loreto's church.
Murcia
We visit the typical Spanish town of Murcia to see its unique cathedral and also the Orchard Museum. Free time for shopping on the streets and the Corte Ingles.
Valencia
On the last day of the tour we visit Valencia - the third largest city in Spain. Our sightseeing will be in the old quarter and we see the 14th century cathedral, the World Heritage building of Lonja, Plaza Mercado and the beautiful bridges that span the river that runs through the city. We overnight in Valencia before the following morning’s flight home.
