On this relaxing holiday we stay in one of the most attractive resort towns in the Algarve - popular Albufeira, with its charming old town, narrow cobblestone streets and white-washed buildings. The lively town square is the ideal place to enjoy the cafes, people watch and shop for local handicrafts. Fisherman’s Beach (Praia dos Pescadores) is where all the local fishermen use to bring in their catch in the days before Albufeira had a harbour. Today the beach is an inviting scene of holiday makers strolling the golden sand, bathing in the sun and enjoying the views of the sea and surrounding cliffs.

Our hotel, the First Class Vila Gale Cerro Alagoa, is situated in the modern section of town within a few minutes walk of everything: shops and restaurants, the old quarter of Albufeira as well as Fisherman’s Beach. Amenities of our hotel include a heated indoor pool, outdoor pool, fitness centre, jacuzzi and games room. Spacious guest rooms are twin-bedded with a pool view and balcony. Buffet breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner is included daily while in the Algarve. Local wine, beer, soft drinks and mineral water are served with all lunches and dinners. WiFi is complimentary throughout the hotel.

Following our stay in the Algarve we will travel by coach to Lisbon (with a stop in Evora en route), for a 2-night stay including a city tour and Farewell Dinner.

* Those joining any of our tours to Europe must be able to walk fairly long distances and climb stairs easily.

A tour of the resort town of Albufeira

The Moorish flavour of the town is evident in the architecture and in the labyrinth of narrow streets that lead down the hillside to the central square. A tunnel at the end of the pedestrian-only shopping area brings you to the town’s main beach.

Visit the medieval city of Silves

We see the 12th century Cathedral and visit the Moorish Castle. We then enjoy a scenic drive in the Monchique Mountains, visit the quaint spa in Caldas and stop in Foia for magnificent views from the highest point in the Algarve.

An excursion to the elegant village of Alte

Perhaps the most picturesque of the Algarve, to see the 16th century church and natural hot springs, followed by the authentic village of Salir surrounded by olive and almond trees.

We explore the historic town of Lagos and the picturesque fishing village of Sagres

Lagos retains many architectural features of its ancient past and several interesting statues of famous figures, while Sagres and Cape St. Vincent offer some the Algarve’s most dramatic scenery of serene beaches and sea-carved cliffs.

A tour of Faro

The provincial capital of the Algarve and thriving university town. We will wander the walled old town with it maze of cobblestone streets, then proceed to the fishing village of Olhao to discover the old port and waterfront.

After our stay in the Algarve we will depart for Evora - one of Portugal’s most beautifully preserved medieval towns, for a walking tour and lunch, then continue to Lisbon.

A city tour of Lisbon

We will see St. George’s Castle overlooking the city, followed by a stroll in the Baixa district – the heart of Lisbon. We continue to Belem to see the Tower, the Monument to the Discoveries, Jeronimo’s Monastery and sample the famous custard tarts “pasteis de Belem”.
