Terms and Conditions

Please read this page carefully before booking your Senior Discovery Tours (SDT) holiday.

  • SDT acts solely as agent between the passenger and supplier for providing services as described in the brochure. SDT will not assume responsibility for any claims, damages or expenses arising from situations beyond our control.

  •  Conditions of Carriage are shown on all transportation tickets and such tickets constitute the sole contract between the passenger and the transportation supplier.

  •  Passports are required by those who are travelling outside Canada. Passports should be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of your expected return to Canada.

  •  All itineraries are listed as “tentative”. While we make every effort to follow the original itinerary closely, we may make changes to improve the program, or because we must make changes for reasons beyond our control. In case any component of a tour cannot be honoured by the contracted supplier, SDT will make every effort to provide a comparable alternative, however no liability should be inferred from these efforts.

  •  Those who choose to decline our comprehensive insurance package will be issued a rebate on their tour cost, the amount to be informed by your Tour Consultant. The following schedule of cancellation penalties applies only if you have declined our insurance package, or if you cancel a tour for a reason not covered in our insurance package (applies to tours without a cruise or rail portion. Cruise or rail penalties may vary).

  •  Cancel 61 days or more prior to departure: $75.

  •  60 days to 31 days prior to departure: 25% of tour cost.

  •  30 days to 8 days prior to departure: 50% of tour cost.

  •  7 days or less prior to departure: 100% of tour cost.

  •  Please note that our cancellation insurance policy does not include “upgrade to single accommodation” in case your partner cancels. In this case you may either pay the single supplement and travel as a single, or cancel the tour and receive a full refund, less the $75 administration fee. Also, while our cancellation insurance policy covers the partner of a person cancelling, it does not cover their friends who are not sharing accommodation with the cancelling party. If you must cancel your tour you must notify us within 48 hours of learning that you are unable to travel, otherwise the cancellation insurance policy is null & void.

  •  Please read the details of your insurance coverage carefully. If you have a pre-existing condition please inquire about your insurance validity at time of booking.

  •  All gratuities are included for all services provided in our tour package. For extra services such as optional excursions, meals on your own, room service and any exceptional services, tipping is at your discretion. If you wish to show appreciation to your tour escort please do so on an individual basis – collections are not permitted!

  •  Single travellers must pay a supplement due to hotel charges. However this does not imply that single travellers will necessarily be assigned a guest room as large as those assigned to two people sharing. We can often team up those without a partner!

  •  On cruises – all shore excursions are optional unless stated otherwise in our brochure. Optional excursions are paid for on board the ship. Our local land-tour operators may also offer optional excursions. While we do our best to monitor their quality, SDT is not responsible for the operation or costing of these excursions.

  •  Please be advised that there may be different standards in utilities, services and accommodations outside Canada. Our classifications for accommodation (“deluxe”, “first-class”, “moderate” etc.) are made in terms of local standards. Please note that outside North America coffee, tea or drinking water are generally not included with lunch or dinner, and non-smoking rooms are generally not available.

  •  Our escorted group tours are designed for people who are physically fit. All tour members should be able to walk fairly long distances at a reasonable pace and be able to negotiate stairs. Passengers requiring wheelchairs and/or walkers should not join one of our escorted tours or river cruises. If you have walking limitations, we recommend booking an ocean cruise on which the land excursions are optional. If you have any concerns about your physical ability to manage one of our trips, we urge you to discuss an appropriate tour for your activity level with one of our travel experts. SDT reserves the right to decline any passenger as a member of our tours at any time for any reason at our sole discretion.

  •  Generally you will receive your tour documents about 10 to 14 days prior to departure, unless we are held up by a supplier providing documentation, in which case you may not receive them until closer to departure.

  •  Luggage handling is included wherever possible, however in some situations it does not exist – especially when removing your luggage from the carousels at foreign airports. You should be capable of handling your luggage in such situations. Luggage carts are used at all airports worldwide, so pack accordingly.

  •  Flight schedule changes are becoming more common, and are beyond our control. We are therefore occasionally forced to change airlines, and/or routings, and/or date of travel for your benefit. In such cases we provide as much notice as possible, and do everything possible to ensure your convenience and comfort. Should a schedule change result in an unplanned overnight enroute to or from your destination, the cost will be borne by the traveller, who will be given the option to cancel with full refund.

  •  You may purchase ticket upgrades to Business or First Class. You may also purchase our tours on a “land only” basis and arrange your own flights independently. Our consultants will be pleased to quote all cost adjustments. If you book your own flights, home pick-up and drop-off, and arrival / departure airport transfers at the destination, are not included. If you book your own flights, please protect yourself with cancellation insurance as we cannot be held responsible for schedule changes, or if a tour is cancelled for any reason.

  •  You may not make any changes to your flight arrangements after the final payment due date.

  •  There may be occasions in which the flight portion of your SDT holiday is unescorted.

  •  SDT will attempt to accommodate special requests by notifying the suppliers in writing. We cannot guarantee that special requests, for example room locations, adjoining rooms, meal requirements for flights or hotels, seating requirements for flights, etc. will be adhered to by our suppliers, and therefore we cannot be held responsible. Sea view or pool view rooms are not guaranteed unless noted otherwise in our brochure.

  •  If a tour is cancelled for any reason our liability is limited to your full refund. No tours will be cancelled due to international events, unless the government specifically advises not to travel to your destination.

  •  We are unable to refund those who do not participate in any included meals or excursions, as they are prepaid.

  •  All of our tours are conducted in English only.

  •  Smoking is not permitted on our motorcoaches.
