Moderate pace with leisurely intermittent walks up to 2 hours on a variety of terrain, including cobblestones and moderate hills. Must be able to climb at least two flights of stairs, negotiate steps without railings and tolerate periods of standing during guided tours. Some days may include 3–5 km of walking over the course of the day.
Arrival in San Juan and transfer to our all-inclusive resort.
After a short information briefing in the morning, spend the day enjoying the resort.
Our guided tour of this fascinating colonial city features key attractions including the Macroix House of Rum, Fortaleza San Felipe, Amber Museum, and scenic spots like Plaza Independencia. We’ll end with a scenic cable car ride and lunch.

Today we visit Ocean World Park near Puerto Plata, a premier marine park featuring the world’s largest man-made dolphin habitat. The tour includes a dolphin encounter, a light lunch and free time to explore the park.

This afternoon we will explore the village of Rio San Juan and visit tranquil Gri Gri Lagoon, a natural sanctuary with incredible birds and mangrove forests.

Today’s guided tour will take us off the beaten tourist track, into the heart of the country, where we’ll experience the local culture. Included will be visits to an artisan cheese factory, the community of Las Lajas, a cocoa farm where Creole chocolate and cocoa wine is produced, a small coffee plantation, the community of Saballo with its 100-year-old sugar cane factory, and the typical house of an 82-year-old artisan in La Piragua where we’ll learn how to make guano baskets using natural materials. We’ll finish off with a stop at a hidden beach where we’ll enjoy a majestic view.

Today we visit Monkeyland, a natural jungle habitat that’s home to beautiful scenery—and friendly squirrel monkeys! After a scenic drive through the Dominican countryside, we’ll have the opportunity to interact with these cheeky, friendly creatures in their natural environment. The sanctuary is also home to beautiful botanical gardens of native flora, well worth a stroll to view all the colourful medicinal plants, flowers and fruit trees native to the Dominican Republic.

We say farewell to this friendly island and fly back to Toronto.
