Northern Spain is a fascinating region with incredible landscapes, rich history and culture, proud gastronomic heritage, top quality wineries and unique architecture.
The Basque people have unique culinary traditions, distinctive geography, and a language that’s unlike any other in the world. The landscape is rich with lush river valleys, Roman ruins, and quaint villages, and the jagged cliffs and deep estuaries of the rugged Atlantic coastline offering dramatic, photo-worthy vistas.
Our tour begins and ends in Bilbao, home to the spectacular Guggenheim Museum and a charming Old Quarter. From here we will visit sophisticated San Sebastian, historic Pamplona, the Nervion River with its famous iron hanging bridge, and the spectacular La Rioja wine region.
There will be overnights in both Ovieda and León—2 cities both known for their rich medieval heritage and lively cultural scenes, and 3 nights in Santiago de Compostela—home to the magnificent St. James Cathedral, Spain’s most famous pilgrimage site. This will be our base to explore beautiful Galicia, with excursions to the port city of La Coruna, Cape Finisterre, and the Roman capital of Luga.
