Spectacular scenery, fascinating history and incredible food and wine—we will savour it all as we explore this beautiful region just north of Rome.
Picture-postcard villages, venerable cathedrals and ancient castles lie scattered across the lush countryside. A warm welcome with seasonal hearty fare. That’s Umbria: lovely, traditional and timeless.
Our trip starts in Perugia, a region famous for its chocolate and pasta. We will explore places rarely visited by tourists: the charming town of Gubbio at the foot of the Apennine Mountains, scenic Lake Trasimeno, clifftop Orvieto, with one of Italy’s most impressive Gothic cathedrals, and of course Assisi and its magnificent shrine—the St. Francis Basilica.
Amidst all that, we’ll enjoy local wine, taste the purest olive oils and indulge in the finest chocolate and truffles.
Our home for the first 5 nights will be the Hotel Gio Wine and Jazz Area (or similar), located in the centre of Perugia and near the transit. The hotel has rooms dedicted to either jazz or wine each with a unique offering in the rooms. There is free Wi-Fi, relax zone wine area, gym and a swimming pool (subject to weather conditions).
From Perugia, we’re off to Assisi for a 6-night stay at the lovely Hotel Assisi La Terrazza—a perfect base for exploring. The hotel sits amongst Assisi’s hillside olive groves, overlooking the picturesque valley, with the historic city centre an easy walk or bus ride away. It has a gym and swimming pool (not heated), with an excellent restaurant that serves regional specialties and international cuisine. Then onwards to Rome for your last 2 nights.
